IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT THE LEGION ACT:
You may have heard about American Legion legislative efforts to increase eligibility by expanding the dates of the "Great Wars". They have been successful in getting the US Congress to submit bills in both the Senate and the House of Representatives! Now it's up to us, American Citizens, to lobby for the passage of these bills and the ultimate signing into law. PLEASE take the time to write, call, or email your US Senator and Representative and express your support for these bills, Senate #504, and House #1641. They are referring to both of them as the LEGION Act; that stands for “Let Everyone Get Involved in

Florida Senator Marco Rubio was a guest at the American Legion Post 347 on Memorial Day, 2018. He spoke to Executive Board members of the Post and then held a question and answer session for members in the Hall.

Historian's Gerald Kaufman, Dept of Florida Historian and Doug Deierlein, Past Western Area District Commander, campaigned at Post 347 Feb meeting for 2018 Dept of Florida Historian Position.
Nanci Cornwell from Lake County Votes invited Post 347 members to participate in Lake County Florida's Vote in Honor of a Veteran. Click here for more info.
Commander Al Varrone and Joan Suelter, Honor Guard Commander present a Letter of Appreciation to Vivian Abalon, a WWII veteran and valued member of Post 347 Honor Guard. Ms Abalon has over 41 years of service with the Honor Guard as the Official Poem Reader at all Military Burial Details. Captain Suetter commented that Vivian will be seriously missed from our Honor Guard team and our Post.
Re-Creation, "America's Ambassadors to Hospitalized Veterans" presented two performances of their traveling show to Post 347's volunteers. It was a great show, with great variety and their music covered all genres and their many custom changes brought many memories to all in attendance.
Relay for Life. VFW Post 347 is proud to assist The Villages/Lady Lake in their Relay for Life on April 14, at the Polo Grounds 1:00PM - 9:00PM with and at 8:00PM a Luminaria Ceremony. Every Donation will make a difference. Click here for info and registration application.
Pass Dept of Florida American Legion Commander, Al Porter, visited Post 347 to announce his running for National Executive Committeemen in the upcoming July 2018 National Elections. Post 347 received a nomination, second and complete membership endorsement in support of Commander Porter in his campaign for the National NEC position.

On October 11th the Post hosted a small group of WW2 veterans with a Turkey dinner. The veterans are part of the approximate 20 WW2 veterans who reside at Sumter Place in The Villages.
Saturday, November 11th, Veterans Day, breakfast has been rescheduled for the following Saturday Nov 18th, 7-11AM
Saturday Breakfast served over 400 meals and collected several Gallons of precious blood for our Veterans and Community.
Life South staff and Post Blood Drive Coordinator Danny did a great job.
Saturday Breakfast is back. Still a great breakfast of Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes (blueberry or regular), Sausage and/or Bacon, Biscuits, Sausage Gravy, OJ and Coffee for the same great price of $6 each. Please no sharing.
Breakfast will be held the second Saturday of each month through the winter months.
Thanks to the volunteers who worked the breakfast.

Members Appreciation Luncheon
1st Vice Commander Ellen Tierney and our every present Door Guardian Robert, greated our members and their guest at the Post for the 2017 Members Appreciation Luncheon. All current members were allowed to eat free complements of Post 347.
Commander Al Varrone, Joyce Varrone and Carol Pirone-Udell serve the members and their guest on July 4th. Thanks to all our Members.

New Officers take over their American Legion Post 347 positions July 1st, 2017.
Commander, Al Varrone, the previous Post 1st Vice Commander, is taking over the reigns from Tim Tierney who has been serving as Post commander 3 of the last 4 years. Commander Varrone stated that he was honored to serve the Veterans of Post 347,"The Largest Post in the World". Post 347 has over 6000 members.
Commander Varrone said that running a Post this large will be a learning experience that he is excited to begin. He also stated that he was very appreciative of all the assistance Commander Tierney has provided to get him ready to take on this position. Our Post is run by Veterans who are willing to volunteer their time and efforts to make sure we have one of the best Post in Florida.
Commander Varrone presents certificate to Vivian Abalon, WWII Veteran, Honor Guard member of long standing. Commander commented that Ms Abalon has been the Official POEM reader for over twenty years at all the Military Honor Burial Details that our Post 247 provide to our area. Honor Guard Captain Joan Suetter looks on and stated we are really going to miss Vivian on our Honor Guard Squad.
